Guynn Family Continues R/C Racing Tradition.

Monday, Sept 4th - The Guynn Family completed a new racing tradition today when they raced their 1/12th scale radio controlled NASCAR-Style cars in their 1st Labor Day racing event.  The Group, comprised of five brothers and one nephew normally reserves Memorial Day as "Race Day" in keeping in tradition with "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing", The Indianapolis 500.

"The Indy-Style Race on Memorial Day is our big event" stated Hank Guynn who, along with his brothers, built the concrete D-Shaped Oval in his backyard in 1998.  "The Memorial Day event is our biggest race.  It has our biggest field of cars and spectators and we've even had local sponsorships on our cars" Hank continued.  The brothers decided to add an event to the schedule this year on Labor Day featuring the NASCAR-style R/C cars.

The cars are grided according to qualification speed before the start.

This is serious racing among family members, the cars are complete with transponders which record the lap times and laps ran as the race progresses.  Each car must qualify and they are grided based upon the average of their two-lap effort.  Johnny Guynn has even went as far as installing a camera in his R/C Indy car which can be viewed in real-time and recorded on his laptop computer during the event.

The Labor Day race was a 200 Lap event with another Guynn brother, Paul, keeping up statistical duties using the information from the transponders and his laptop.  His duties included giving 50-lap interval updates and counting down the final ten laps of the race.  Since these cars are battery operated, they require 5 - 7 "battery-changing pit stops" throughout the event.  A special Pit-runner is used and his responsibility is to hand the cars to the appropriate operator when he pulls into the designated pit area on the track and re-grid the car when the stop is completed.  The event includes many high-speed crashes and crash-runners are used to replace the cars on the track when incidents happen.
